ESMEIN, JEAN PAUL HIPPOLYTE EMMANUEL ADHÉMAR (1848-1913), French jurist, was born at Tourvérac, Charente, Feb. 1 1848, In 1888 he became professor of law in the university of Paris, and in 1904 member of the Institute of France. His best-known works are Cours élémentaire d'histoire du droit français (1895) and Éléments de droit constitutionnel français et comparé (1903). He died July 22 1913.
