Francisco Ferrer
(1859–1909)
See biography, media. A Catalan free-thinker and educator around the turn of the 20th century. Established the Modern School (Escuela Moderna) as a socially progressive alternative to the Catholic schools that dominated Spain at the time. Summarily executed by Spanish authorities in 1909.
