American doctor; Surgeon (with the rank of Major) in the Confederate States Army; Professor of Chemistry and Clinical Medicine at the University of Louisiana; Visiting physician at Charity Hospital (1868-1894); President of the Louisiana State Board of Health (1889); Surgeon General in the United Confederate Veterans Association (1889-1894).
