[edit] Psalm 1
1Happy is the person [1][2] who walks not in counsel of wicked,
And he stands not in way of sin,
And he sits not in seat of mocking-ones.[3][4]
2But rather in law of YHWH [is] his delight
And in his law is soliloquizing by day and night.
3 And he will be [5] like a tree, planted by streams of water,
Which gives its fruit in its season,
And its leaf does not wither.
And all that he does he will make to prosper.
4The wicked are not like this,
But are like the chaff which the wind drives away.
5Therefore the wicked will not [6] rise [7] in the judgment,
Nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
6For Yahweh knows the way of the righteous,
And the way of the wicked is lost [8].
[edit] Psalm 2
1Why do the nations rage [9],
And peoples [10] think [11] vanity [12] ?
2The kings of the earth set themselves,
And rulers take counsel together [13],
Against Yahweh, and against his Messiah [14],
3"Let us tear off their bonds,
And throw away their cords from us."
4He who sits in the heavens will laugh; [15]
LORD [16] will ridicule [17] them.
5 Then he will speak to them in his anger,
And terrify them in his wrath.
6 And I have anointed my king, on Zion, my holy hill.
7 I will tell [18] of a decree:
Yahweh said to me, You are my son,
Today I have begotten you. [19]
8Ask of me and I will give nations your inheritance,
And your possession the ends of the earth.
9 You will rule them with a rod [20] of iron,
You will break them in pieces like a potter's vessel.
10 And now, O kings, be wise;
Be corrected, O judges of the earth.
11Serve Yahweh with fear,
And rejoice with trembling.
12Kiss [21] the son [22] , lest he be angry, and you lose the way, [23]
When his anger burns just a little.
Blessed are all [24] those who trust in him.
[edit] Psalm 3
A Psalm of David, In his fleeing from the face of Absalom, his son.[25]
1Yahweh, how my enemies are increased;
Many rise up against me!
2Many say of my soul,
"There is no help for him in God."

3And you, O Yahweh, are a shield for me,
My glory, and the one who lifts up my head.
4My voice is toward Yahweh. I call,
And he answers me from his holy hill.

- Selah
-
5I laid down and slept;
I awakened; for Yahweh sustains me.
6I am not afraid of myriads [26] of people
Who have set against me all around.
7Arise, O Yahweh!
Save me, my God!
For you have struck all my enemies on the jaw;
You have broken the teeth of the wicked.
8 Salvation Yahweh's
You blessing is on your people.

-
- A Psalm of David
-
-
1When I call, [30] answer me, O God of my righteousness.
In distress you have enlarged me.
Be gracious [31]to me, and hear my prayer.
2O you sons of men! How long my honor to shame, [32]
[In that] you love vanity,seek after falsehood? [33]
-
-
- Selah.
-
3But know that Yahweh has set apart a holy one for himself; Yahweh will hear when I call him. [34]
4Tremble and do not sin. Speak in your heart on your bed, and be silent.
-
-
- Selah.

5Sacrifice sacrifices of righteousness, [35] and trust in Yahweh
6Many say, "Who will show us goodness?" Lift up on us the light of your face, O Yahweh.
7You have put gladness in my heart, more than when their corn and wine have increased.
8In peace I will both lay down, and sleep;
For only you, O Yahweh, make me dwell in safety.
[edit] Psalm 5
[Is in Progress]
-
-
-
- To The Excellent One on Nehiloth.[36]
-
-
- A Psalm of David.
1Listen to my words, O Yahweh,
Consider my meditation.
2Pay attention to the voice of my cry,
My king and my God,
For to you I will pray.[37]
3Yahweh, at morning you will hear my voice,
I will arrange for you, and wait. [38]
4For you are not a God[39] who delights in wickedness;
Evil does not inhabit you.
5 The boastful will not stand before your eyes;
You hate all workers of iniquity.
6You will destroy those who speak lies,
A man of blood and deceit Yahweh abhors.
7 And I, in the abundance of your kindness, I enter your house.
I bow myself toward your holy temple in your fear.
8O Yahweh, lead me in your righteousness,
Because of my enemies,
Make your way straight before me.
9For there is no stability in their mouth;
Their inward part is calamity.
Their throat is an open grave;
They deceive with their tongues.
10Declare them guilty, O God;
Let them fall by their own counsels;
Cast them out in the abundance of their transgressions,
For they have rebelled against you.
11But let all who put their trust in you rejoice;
Let them ever shout for joy,
Because you defend them.
And let those who love your name exult in you.
12For you will bless the righteous, O Yahweh,
With favor you will surround them like a shield.
[edit] Psalm 6
[In progress]
- To The Excellent One on Neginoth on Sheminith.
-
-
- A Psalm of David.
-
-
1O Yahweh, do not rebuke me in your anger,
Nor chasten me in your heated.
2Be gracious to me, O Yahweh, for I am weak;
Heal me, O Yahweh, for my bones are troubled.
3My soul is also very troubled;
And you, O Yahweh, how long?
4Return, O Yahweh, deliver my soul:
Save me for your kindness' sake.
5For in death no remembrance of you:
In the grave who will give thanks to you?
6I am weary with my groaning;
All the night I cause my bed to swim;
I melt my couch with my tears.
7My eye wastes away because of frustration;
It grows old because of all my enemies.
8Depart from me, all you trouble-makers;
For Yahweh has heard the sound of my weeping.
9Yahweh has heard my supplication;
Yahweh will receive my prayer.
10All my enemies will be ashamed and greatly troubled:
They will turn back--suddenly ashamed.
[edit] Psalms 7
A Shiggaion of David, which he sang to Yahweh concerning Cush, a Benjamite.
Yahweh my God, in you I have taken refuge;
save me from all those who pursue me,
and deliver me,
Lest he my soul like a lion,
dragging me away, while there is none to deliver.
Yahweh my God, if I have done this,
if there is injustice in my hands,
If I have rewarded evil to him who was at peace with me,
or have plundered him who without cause was my adversary,
Let the enemy pursue my soul and overtake,
and let him trample my life down to the ground,
and lay my glory in the dust.
Selah.
Arise, Yahweh, in your anger,
lift up yourself against the rage of my adversaries,
and arouse yourself for me;
you has appointed judgement.
And let the assembly of the peoples encompass you;
and over it return you on high.
Yahweh judges the peoples;
judge me, Yahweh,
according to my righteousness and my integrity that is in me.
Let the evil of the wicked come to an end,
but establish the righteous;
for the righteous God tries the hearts and kidneys.
My shield is upon God,
who saves the upright in heart.
God is a righteous judge, and a God who has indignation every day.
If he does not repent,
He will sharpen His sword;
He has bent His bow and fixed it.
He has also prepared for Himself deadly weapons;
He makes His arrows fiery shafts.
Look, he travails with wickedness,
and he conceives mischief,
and brings forth falsehood.
He has dug a pit and hollowed it out,
and has fallen into the hole which he made.
His mischief will return upon his own head,
and his violence will descend upon his own pate.
I will give thanks to Yahweh
according to his righteousness,
and will sing praise to the name of Yahweh Most High.
Psalm 8-22

Psalm 23
Psalm of Dawid.
YHWH, my shepherd,
I shall not lack.
He is recline me in oases of vegetation
he conducts me on waters of rest.
he restores my soul;
he guides me in the tracks of righteousness
for his name's sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I fear no evil;
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
You did prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
you has anointed my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and loving-kindness will follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of YHWH for length of days.

[edit] Footnotes
- ↑ (1:1, the man) In the Hebrew is "'iysh", or "man" (Brown-Driver-Brigg's Lexicon, Strong's #376
- ↑ (1:1, Blessed is the man) Or, "O the Happiness of that man..."
- ↑ (1:1, does not walk...not stand...does not sit) Or, has not walked...has not stood...has not sat.
- ↑ (1:1, scoff) Or, act arrogantly or mock.
- ↑ (1:3, will be) Or, has been.
- ↑ (1:5, will not) Or, do not. Hebrew Imperfect Tense.
- ↑ (1:5, rise) Or, stand.
- ↑ (1:6, is lost) Or, will perish.
- ↑ (2:1, rage) This is the Hebrew word "ragash" (Strong's 7283), which is only found here in the entire Hebrew Scriptures. According to Strong, it means "to be tumultous." The BDB lexicon renders it "to be in tumult or commotion." The Septuagint translates it with the Greek word "phruasso," "to snort," which is also found only in this Psalm and in the book of Acts' quotation of it. The Vulgate translates it "fremuerunt," a form of the word "fremo," which means to roar, growl, rage, or clamor. Similar words "regash" and "regesh/rigshah" refer to assembling as a crowd, but both times in a context of trying to destroy someone (as in Daniel 6:6 and Psalm 55:14).
- ↑ (2:1, peoples) Some translations read "the people," but the Hebrew form "leomiym" is plural--"peoples" is the more precise translation.
- ↑ (2:1, think) Hebrew "hagah": to murmur, meditate, plot.
- ↑ (2:1, vanity) Hebrew "riyq," emptiness. The Septuagint, quoted by the book of Acts, reads "kena," vain things.
- ↑ (2:2, take counsel together) Or, sit themselves down in unity.
- ↑ (2:2, Messiah) Hebrew "mashiyach," anointed, Messiah.
- ↑ (2:4, will laugh) Or, laughs.
- ↑ (2:4, LORD) In the Masoretic text, the word for "Lord" here is Adonai. However, according to the Massorah, the Biblical marginal notes in the old Hebrew texts, the word "Yahweh" was originally written here but later altered. The word is translated as "Lord" here following the Masoretic Hebrew text, but all capitals have been added to draw attention to this unusual situation.
- ↑ (2:4, will ridicule) Or, ridicules.
- ↑ (2:7, I will tell) Or, I tell.
- ↑ (2:7, begotten you) Or, brought you forth.
- ↑ (2:9, rod) Or, sceptre.
- ↑ (2:12, Kiss) Some translations read, "do homage to."
- ↑ (2:12, son) Hebrew and Aramaic, "bar." Can also mean "ground" or "in purity."
- ↑ (2:12, lose the way) Or, perish the way.
- ↑ (2:12, Blessed are all) Or, O the happiness of all...
- ↑ (Psalm 3, Superscription) This is counted as verse 1 in most Jewish Bibles, making the next verse verse 2, etc. This is why Jewish Bibles tend to have their Psalms verses numbered differently from other bibles.
- ↑ (2:6, myriads) Hebrew "rebabah." This word is translated in the Septuagint as myriads; in the Vulgate, thousands.
- ↑ (Psalm 4, Superscription, "The Excellent One") Hebrew "natsach." There are many renderings of this word. The Septuagint and Vulgate translate it as "The End." Strong's Concordance and Brown-Driver-Brigg's Hebrew lexicon both define it as "excellent" or "pre-eminent." Often this is interpreted as "chief Musician."
- ↑ (Psalm 4, Superscription, "Neginoth") A plural word in Hebrew, some take it to mean "stringed instruments." E.W. Bullinger's "The Companion Bible" takes it to mean "smitings," a title for Psalms of deliverance from oppression.
- ↑ (Psalm 4, Supercription "To The Excellent One on Neginoth") This note is traditionally held in both Hebrew and English Bibles to be the beginning of Psalm 4. We have followed this tradition here, but there is some disagreement over the placement of it and other similar titles. The oldest Hebrew texts do not have clear divisions between the Psalms, but the Septuagint and Vulgate count it as the beginning of the fourth Psalm. Some argue that it should follow the Psalm of Habakkuk 3, which begins with its authorship, has the text second, then finally ends with the dedication. Thus, here too it should be placed at the end of the previous chapter.
- ↑ (4:1, When I call) Literally, "in my calling."
- ↑ (4:1, be gracious) Hebrew, "chanan." Coming from a root meaning "to stoop or incline oneself toward," it is translated a variety of ways. In the KJV alone it is translates as have mercy, be gracious, be merciful or shew mercy, favour or shew favous, have pity on, be favourable, deal mercifully, grant graciously, etc.
- ↑ (4:2, How long...honor to shame) In Hebrew, "ad-mah kebodiy likelimah," "until when my honor to shame." The Septuagint, however, according to Brenton's Translation, reads "How long [will ye be] slow of heart?" The Vulgate's Douay-Rheims translation reads, "How long will you be dull of heart?" The reason for this difference of translation is not clear.
- ↑ (4:2, You love vanity, seek after falsehood?) This is translated in various ways: Septuagint: "Why do you love vanity, and seek falsehood?" Vulgate: "Why do you love vanity, and seek after lying?" Geneva: "Howe long will yee turne my glory into shame, louing vanity, and seeking lyes?" KJV: " Will ye love vanity, And seek after leasing?" Young's Literal Translation: "Ye love a vain thing. Ye seek a lie." Jewish Publication Society 1917 Bible: "...how long shall my glory be put to shame, in that ye love vanity, and seek after falsehood?"
- ↑ (4:3, when I call) Literally, in my calling.
- ↑ (4:5, sacrifices of righteousness) Or possibly, right sacrifices.
- ↑ (Psalm 5 Superscription, Nehiloth) Or, according to E.W. Bullinger's "The Companion Bible," Nehaloth, "Inheritances."
- ↑ (5:2, I will pray) Or, I pray, or, I am praying.
- ↑ (5:3, I will direct to you) Or more literally,
- ↑ (5:4, God) Or, god. The Hebrew text makes no distinction as to how things should be capitalized in English.
