1 Hēafodƿeard[edit]

1. Simon Petrus, þeȝn and ǣrendraca Iesus Crīstes, þǣm þā habbaþ ȝefanȝen ȝelīcne ƿeorþne ȝelēafan mid ūs on þǣre rihtƿīsnesse ūres Ȝodes and Hǣlendes Iesus Crīstes:

2. Ǣr ēoƿ and friþ sīen maniȝfealded on þǣre ȝeƿitnesse Ȝodes and Iesus ūres Dryhtnes,

3. sƿā His ȝodcund miht hafaþ ȝifen ūs eall þinȝ þā ȝelimpaþ līfe and ƿilsumnesse, þurh þǣre ȝeƿitnesse his se þe hēt ūs þurh his āȝnan þrym and his ƿeorþ;

4. þurh þæt þe hē hafaþ ȝifen ūs his ƿeorþlīcan sƿīðe ȝrēatan hāt; sƿā þæt þurh þās mæȝen ȝē ƿeorðan dǣlnimendas þæs ȝodcundan ȝeċyndes. hæbbende ūtȝān fram þǣm ȝunde þæt is on þǣre ƿorulde þurh ȝālscipe.

8. For þȳ ȝif þās þinȝ sīen ēoƿer and maniȝfealden, þonne hīe fornȳdaþ ēoƿic tō ƿesenne unīdele ne unƿǣstmbǣre on þǣre ȝeƿitnesse ūres Dryhtnes Iesus Crīstes.

9. For þȳ hē se þe nafaþ þās þinȝ is blind, sēonde synderlīce þæt is nēah, hæbbennde forȝoten þā clǣnsunȝe fram his ealdum synnum.

10. Þæs brōðru, ƿesaþ ȝeornran tō macienne þīn hāt and þīne cēosunȝe ȝeƿisslīc. For þȳ ȝif ȝē dōn þās, ȝē nā ætspeornen.

11. For þȳ þus ēoƿ rīclīce bēoþ ȝifen þone inȝanȝ in þæt ēcelīce Cynerīce ūres Dryhtnes and Hǣlendes Iesus Crīstes.

12. Þæs nille ic forȝietan tō ȝemanienne ēoƿ þisra þinȝa, þēah þe ȝe cnāƿaþ hīe sind ȝesete on þǣm ȝenȝan sōðe.

13. Ic þence hit ƿesan riht, sƿā lanȝ sƿā ic in þissum stealle sitte, tō aƿeccenne ēoƿic ūpp þȳ ic ēoƿ ȝemanie;

14. cnāƿende þæt sēo framaƿeorpunȝ mīnes stealles cymþ hraðe, sƿā sƿā ūre Dryhten Iesus Crīst hafaþ ȝebirhted mē.

15. Ȝēa, ic sceal ȝesēcan þæt ȝē ā ȝemunen þās efne æfter mīnre āfōre.

16. For ƿē ne folȝodon cræftiȝe acræfted lēasspell, þǣr ƿē ȝycȳðdon þā mihte þæs tōcymes ūres Dryhtnes Iesus Crīstes, ac ƿē ƿǣron ȝeƿitan his cyneþrymes.

17. For þe Hē andfanȝen fram Ȝode þǣm Fæder āre and þrym, þǣr sēo stefn cōm tō Him fram þǣm Cyneþrymfæstan Þryme, "Þes is Mīn lēofa Sunu on þǣm Ic līcie."

18. Ƿē hīerdon þās stefne cuman fram Heofonum þǣr ƿē ƿǣron mid Hum on þǣm hālȝan bēorȝe.

19. Ƿē hæfdon þæt fæstre ƿord fōrecƿides; and ȝē dōþ ƿel þæt ȝē hīersumien him, sƿā lēohtfæte scīnende on doercre stōƿe, oþ se dæȝ daȝaþ, and se morȝensteorra arīseþ ēoƿrum heortum:

20. cnāƿende þis ǣrost, þæt nǣniȝ fōrecƿide þæs Ȝeƿrites is tō ānlēpiȝre āreccunȝe.

21. For þū nān fōrecƿide ǣfre cƿōm æfter þone ƿillan menn; ac hālȝan menn Ȝodes sprǣcon, ƿesende ȝeƿeȝed fram þǣm Hālȝan Ȝāste.

1. Ac lēase ƿīreȝan ēac arison onȝemanȝ þāra lēoda, sƿā sƿā lēase tǣcendas ēac bēoþ onȝemanȝ ēoƿer, þā brinȝaþ dēoȝollīce ƿælȝrimme dƿeolan, ætsæcende efne þone Mæȝester þe bohte hīe, brinȝende him sƿifte ætlǣtnesse.

2. Manīȝe sculon folȝian heora bealosīðas, and þæs se ƿeȝ þæs sōðes sceal ƿesan bismerod.

6. and ƿendenda þā byriȝ Sodoman and Ȝomorran on æscum, dēmende hīe on heora cƿealm, settende hīe tō bȳsne tō þǣm þā ƿoldon lifiȝan mānfullīce;

7. and sparode rihtƿīsne Loth delivered righteous Lot, þe sƿīðe sƿanc ymb þæt ȝālsume līf þāra yfelena

11. ac enȝelas, þēah hīe sīen māran on mihte ond cræfte, ne brinȝaþ beceoriendne dōm ƿiþ hīe fōre þǣm Dryhtne.

12. Ac þās, tō uncnāƿendum ƿihtum, ȝeboren tō ȝecyndelīcum dēorum tō ƿesenne ȝenumen and forloren, sprecende yfel ƿord ymb þinȝ þāra þe hīe ne cnāƿaþ, sculon þǣr hīe forlēosaþ forloren ƿeorðan,

13. andfōnde þā lēana unrihtƿīsnesse; menn þā þencaþ dæȝes ȝamen lustfulness ƿesan, ȝlemmas and onsundnessa, pleȝende on hoera lēasunȝe þā hƿīle þe ȝæmeniende ēoƿ;

14. hæbbende ēaȝan full ēacad on forlæȝere, and þā ne cunnon endian heora synne; inbrinȝende unfæste ȝāstas; bæbbende heortan cræftiȝ on ȝræde; cildru ƿærnesse;

15. ætsæcende þone rihtan ƿeȝ, hīe dƿelodon, hæbbende folȝod þone ƿeȝ Balaames þæs Suna Bosores, þe lufode þā lēana unrihtƿīsnesse;

16. ac hē ƿæs cīded for his āȝnan unhīersumnesse. Dum eosol spræc mid menn stefne and forestæp þā ƿēdunȝe þæs bȳdles.

19. abēodende frēodōm hīe, þā hƿīle hīe selfe sind þēoƿas ȝundes; for þȳ mann is ȝebrōht on clammum be hƿǣm oferƿinnþ hine.

20. For ȝif, æfter hīe habbaþ afloȝen fram þǣre fȳlðe þǣre ƿorulde þurh þā ȝeƿitnesse þæs Dryhtnes and Hǣlendes Iesus Crīstes, hīe sind eft ȝebunden on hire and oferƿunnen fram hire, sēo æfterre byrdness is ƿyrse þonne sēo ǣrre.

21. For þȳ þe hit sīe betere him þæt hīe ne nā cnēoƿen þone ƿeȝ rihtƿīsnesse, þonne þæt hīe æfter cnāƿende hine hīe aƿenden fram þǣm hālȝan bode þe ƿæs asend him.

22. Ac hit hafaþ ȝelumpen hīe æfter þǣm sōðan bīcƿide, "Se hund eft ƿendeþ tō sīnum spiƿe," and "sēo sū þe ƿæs ƿæsced eft ƿendeþ tō hire pleȝende on fenne."

4 and secȝende, "Hƿǣr is þæt hāt his tōcymes? For þȳ, siþþan þǣm dæȝe þā þā þā fæderas ƿurdon slǣpende, eall þinȝ ȝelǣstaþ sƿā hīe ƿǣron siþþan þǣm onȝinne ȝesceaftes."

5 For hīe ȝeorne forȝietaþ þis, þæt þǣr ƿǣron heofonas siþþan ȝēarodaȝum, and on eorðan ȝescieped of ƿætere ond onȝemanȝ þæs ƿæteres, þurh þæt ƿord Ȝodes;

6 þurh þone þe sēo ƿoruld ƿæs, ƿesende flēdu mid ƿætere, cƿæl.

7 Ac þā heofonas þe nū sind, and sēo eorðe, þurh ilce ƿord hafaþ ȝeƿorden ȝehordod oþ fȳr, ƿesende healden oþ þone dæȝ dōmes and cƿealmes mānfullra manna.

8 Ac ne forȝietaþ þis ān þinȝ, lēofas, þæt ān dæȝ is þǣm Dryhtne sƿā þūsend ȝeara, ond þūsend ȝēara is sƿā ān dæȝ.

9 Se Dryhten nis slāƿ ymb his hāt, sƿā sume tellaþ slǣƿþe; ac is ūs ȝeþyldiȝ, neillende þæt nān nō cƿelle, ac þæt ealle cumen tō behrēoƿsienne.

10 Ac se dæȝ þæs Dryhtnes sceal cuman sƿā sƿā þēof on nihte; ond on þǣm þā heofonas sculon acƿelan on ȝrēatum sƿēȝe, and þā ȝesceaft bēoþ molten on þearlum hāte, and sēo eorðe and þā ƿeorc þā sind on hire bēoþ forbærned.

11 Þæs for þȳ þe eall þās þinȝ bēoþ forcƿeled þus, hƿelc ȝecynd lēoda scodldon ȝē ƿesan on hālȝum līfe and ƿilsumnesse,

12 sēcende and ȝeorne ȝiernende þone cumendan dæȝ Ȝodes, þe nȳdeþ þā bernendan heofonas tō meltenne, and þā ȝesceaft sculon meltan mid þǣm þearlan hāte?

13 Ac, æfter his hāte, ƿē sēcaþ nīƿe heofonas and nīƿe eorðan, on þǣm þe rihtƿīsness abītt.

14 Þæs, lēofas, for þȳ ȝē sēcaþ þās, ƿesaþ ȝeorne tō ƿesnne ȝefunden on friðe, lēas ƿammes ond ȝyltlēas on His sihþe.

15 Be þǣm þolemōde ūres Dryhtnes tō hǣlo; sƿā sƿā ūre lēofa brōðor Paulus ēac ƿrāþ ēoƿ, æfter þǣm ƿīsdōm þe ƿæs him ȝifen;

16 sƿā ēac on eallum his ǣrendȝeƿritum, sprecende on him þisra. On him, þǣr sind sumu þinȝ þā sind earfoþ tō understondenne, þā þā dƿǣsan and unȝeþinȝedan ȝebīȝaþ, sƿā hīe dōþ on ōðrum Ȝeƿritum, tō heora āȝnan cƿealme.

17 Þæs ȝē lēofas, cnāƿende þās ǣr, ƿariaþ, þȳ læs þe ȝānde mid þǣm ƿōȝe þāra yfelena, ȝe feallen on ēoƿere staðolfæstnesse.

18 Ac ƿeaxaþ on þǣre āre and andȝiete ūres Dryhtnes ond Hǣlendes Iesus Crīstes. Him sīe se þrym ȝe nū ȝe ā. Sōþlīce.
