Ashley, John James. An eminent organist and singing master. He presided for seven years at the oratorios at Covent Garden, where he introduced many of his pupils; among whom were Mrs. Vaughan, Mrs. Salmon, Master Elliott, C. Smith, and other favorite vocal performers. He was in early life a scholar of the celebrated Schroeter, and well versed in the science of music, and author of some excellent lessons for the piano-forte, canzonets, &c., &e. He was brother of the preceding, and died a few years since.
