The annual election of councillors for the town of Edmonton teok place on Tuesday last, January 3rd. As mayor McCauley had been re-elected by acclamation on nomination day, the voting was for councillors only. The following is the return of the votes received by the several candidates:

A. G. Randall, town clerk, acted as returning officer and J. R. Michael as deputy returning officer. The count was begun by the returning officer at 5 o'clock, as soon as the poll had closed, and the result was declared at 6 o'clock. None of the ballots cast were rejected on account of being mismarked. Only two were spoiled in process of voting, and these were replaced in time, so that every vote cast was counted. The total number of votes cast was 128, showing that of all the ballots cast only 21 were not marked for Mr. McDougall, an expression of public confidence of which that gentleman has reason to feel proud. The total number of votes on the list was 268, of whom 176 resident and 92 non-resident. Considering that no person was allowed to vote unless his taxes were paid a very creditable vote was polled. The reason that the vote was so much smaller than the first election last winter was that then a property qualification was not required, while now not only is the property qualification required but the taxes on it must have been paid. The proceedings during the voting were carried on very quiely, although there was a very fair amount of hustling done. In the evening the Fire Brigade band serenaded the successful candidates, while the defeated ones accepted the inevitable with a good grace.
