Executive Order 1279

Under authority of the Act of Congress, approved July 5, 1884, entitled "An Act to provide for the disposal of abandoned and useless military reservations" (23 Stat. L., 103), the military reservation of Fort Ringgold, Texas, together with the buildings thereon, having become useless for military purposes, is hereby placed under the control of the Secretary of the Interior for disposition under said Act of Congress, or as may be otherwise provided by law.

The said reservation is situated on the Rio Grande River, in Starr County, and was acquired under decree of the District Court of said county, rendered March 30, 1878, amended at the March term, 1879, and, according to the plat of survey referred to in said decree, contains an area of 334 acres, with metes and bounds as given in general orders No. 167, War Department, October 3, 1906, and includes all accretions thereto since the date of said survey. The decree excepts the public highways to the city of Brownsville, to the public ferry and landing for steamers plying on the Rio Grande, and sufficient and proper easement for the said ferry and steamer.
