Description Book plate of Nicholas Bacon for the books he presented to the university of Cambridge. Arms: Gules, on a chief argent two mullets pierced sable (Bacon) quartering Barry of six or and azure, a bend gules (Quaplade). Crest: A boar ermine.
Date 1574; as of 1911, this was thought to be the earliest book plate used in England
