There are some preliminary issues.

  • this book is the translation, made from US Government, of a French book but detailed mention of French source is lacking;
  • the French source has been translated by George H. Cameron, that I mentioned here as "author".

Some traces about the original French version[edit]

I found on Amazon.fr the mention of this book:

Mémento d'hippologie pour répondre au questionnaire de l'École d'application de cavalerie, d'après le Traité d'hippologie de MM. Jacoulet et Chomel. Nouvelle édition entièrement revue par Jules Jacoulet et Claude Chomel (Reliure inconnue - 1908).

It's likely the original French book I was searching.

Answer from Samour school[edit]

Here below my answer to Samour school and the kind reply I got.

I wrote:

First of all, I apologize for writing in English.

I found into Internet Archives a book printed by US Government , "Notes on equitation and horse training, in answer to the examination questions at the School of application for cavalry at Saumur, France" (1910), a very interesting booklet, that is told to be the English translation of an original, French booklet by the Samour school.

Can you give me please some more detail about the original French publication (author/s, year of publication, publisher, original title)? Thanks very much

« Réponses au Questionnaire d'Equitation de l'Ecole d'Application de Cavalerie. Saumur, S. Milon fils, 1890. » I vol. in-8° de 140 pages avec quelques figures dans le texte pour la tenue des rênes.
La deuxième édition a un titre différent :
« Notes d'équitation répondant au questionnaire de l'Ecole d'Application de Cavalerie – Carrousels militaires et Reprises d'Officiers – deuxième édition – Saumur, S. Milon fils, 1898. » I volume in-8° de 164 pages avec figures dans le texte pour la tenue des rênes et pour le carrousel, ajouté dans cette édition. L'auteur de ce travail est le général MAHOT (Louis-Marie, Eugène-Fernand), alors capitaine écuyer à Saumur.
