Oily Weather
by Ernest Hemingway
(first printed in the U.S. in 1923 either without copyright or renewal)

The sea desires deep hulls-
It swells and rolls.
The screw churns a throb-
Driving, throbbing, progressing.
The sea rolls with love,
Surging, caressing,
Undulating its great loving belly.
The sea is big and old-
Throbbing ships scorn it.
