7. Stipes, Stipe[1], is the stem of a frond, which in ferns is commonly scaly. See the plates cited in the last section. The term is likewise applied to the stalk of a Fungus, as the Common Mushroom, Agaricus campestris, Sowerby's Fungi, t. 305.
