SHIP AND BOAT REPAIR (Cont'd)

Radio, Radar, and Sonar

The mission of this unit is the installation, repair and upkeep of all radio, radar, and sonar equipment on surface vessels, including merchantmen. Repair and upkeep of gyrocompasses on all surface vessels, including merchantmen.

This unit uses no prefabricated structures for administration or operation. The shop used is a permanently constructed building containing approximately 800 sq. ft. of floor space.

This unit has sufficient equipment for testing and calibrating equipment of surface vessels, including merchantmen. The major equipment consists of the following: 115-240 V.DC. motor generator for supplying necessary power to accomplish all tests and repairs, battery charging and shop power; 115V., 60 cycle motor-generator for supplying power to test equipment; 1 - 24" bed lathe; 1 Power grinder; 1 Powered drill press; 1 Circular saw.

This unit has handled repairs of all shipping requiring such repairs calling at this port.

Personnel: 1 officer and 10 enlisted men.

Mission: The Submarine Repair Unit, Navy 137, is a shore based activity which has an integral part in operating submarines in Task Group 71.3. Its mission is to provide the same facilities for repair and refitting of submarines as are provided by submarine tender, including submarine spare parts. In addition the Submarine Repair Unit has the mission of providing for the recreation and welfare of submarine officers and men in recuperation status. The further mission of this Unit is to operate and provide a motor vehicle pool, serving its own facilities and other vessels of the Task Group.

Buildings: Prefabricated Structures: The only prefabricated building used is a prefabricated storehouse 40' by 100' in which the Fleet Schools are maintained.

This unit can do the work of an E4 component except as it is limited by lack of the following equipment:SECRET.
