ADMINISTRATION

REMARKS: This command has no functional component of its own for administration as is listed in the "Advanced Base Initial Outfittings Lists". The work which would be done by such components is done by Commander Task Force, Seventy-One, which is an afloat command. The administrative work required of the Activities shown in this report is performed by the officers and men attached to the Activity.

HARBOR CONTROL AND DEFENSE Harbor Entrance Control Post, Fremantle.

REMARKS: Harbor Entrance Control Post is operated by R.A.N. However, the U.S. Navy has two CSM and two Slc's stationed at this Post under the Communications Office. For a description of this activity see "Visual Station" under "Communications".




Underwater Detection

REMARKS: The U.S. Navy maintains no underwater detection facility in this area. However, underwater detection is afforded by R.A.N. covering the entrance to Gage Roads at Fremantle. This protection provided by R.A.N. is considered adequate.




Port Director.
This Command has no Port Director, function pertaining thereto being administrerd by the U.S. Navy Port Operations Officer. The Port of Fremantle is under control of the R.A.N. which issues the regulations concerning the same and is the routing officer for all vessels.

Mission: Operations officer for Service Force Subordinate Command vessels; berthing of U.S.N. vessels; obtaining pilot, tug, crane, and launch services when required; U.S. merchant ship boarding officer arranges for services for the U.S. Navy armed guard such as pay, supplies, medical and dental attention, electrical and gunnery repairs, etc; act as liaison between armed guard and shore based activities; act as liaison between U.S. Navy and Australian Military units, civilian port authorities, U.S. War Shipping Administration, etc.

Buildings:

Prefabricated structures: none.

Equipment and Assigned Craft: One YP Boat.

Capacity: 37 U.S. merchant vessels, having a gross tonnage of approximately 295,000 tons, entered this port during the month of July, 1944.

Personnel: 1 Warrant Officer.




Harbor Patrol

REMARKS: The U.S. Navy does not provide for Harbor Patrol. All harbor patrol work is done by the R.A.N. and is considered adequate.
