HARBOR CONTROL AND DEFENSE Section Base

REMARKS: The U.S. Navy maintains no section base in this area.

Boat Pool

Mission: The mission of this component is to provide small boat transportation for officers and enlisted personnel of the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard to U.S. war and merchant ships in the Fremantle Harbor.

Buildings: No prefabricated structures are used for administration or operation of this component.

One pontoon bridge section, 2 x 12, is used for mooring small boats. Small boats assigned to this unit are: one 26 foot motor boat; one 35 foot motor boat; one 40 foot launch which will be in commission about the middle of September, 1944.

This component will provide adequate transportation services on any schedule. Trips are made as required by Naval and Coast Guard Officers. Use of the facilities of this component varies according to ship movements in the Fremantle Harbor.

Personnel: 1 Warrant Officer, 1 CBM and 9 enlisted men.




Surface Detection Radar.

REMARKS: The U.S. Navy maintains no surface detection radar facilities. The R.A.N. maintains adequate radar protection.




Net Defenses

REMARKS: The U.S. Navy maintains no net defenses in this area. Adequate net defense is provided at the entrance of the Fremantle Harbor by the R.A.N. Net defense is under construction at the entrance to Cockburn Sound which is to be used for anchorage for warships up to and including heavy cruisers.
