Dear Parents,

I acknowledge myself guilty of a gross neglect of writing without any reasonable excuse, having had time and matter, sufficient to have made an interesting communication, but in manner, am deficient—I can however inform you of my good health, the good health of Sam'l and family, and other friends, relations and acquaintance in this country—

I am now in the Service, acting as Surgeon of the 6th Regt. U.S. Infantry—My resolutions are to continue in service till some occurrence makes it advisable to quit it——The opportunity for practical knowledge is superior to any private situation within my province—The compensation is handsome and payment prompt——

Sam'l is doing well in the Grocery business and would be glad to have one of the Boys to assist him, if they dare venture so near the seat of an anticipated Battle——

There are now, in this camp, about two thousand Regulars, in trim order and under good discipline—recruits are constantly
