The subsidiary borders b and b1 in Figure 17 consist of repeats of a simple bi-symmetrical motive analagous to the central portion of the four-armed figure in the border just described. The upper and lower borders b, b1 generally vary in

colouring. In the portion shewn in figure 17, b has the pattern outlined in yellow and filled with magenta, whilst b1 is worked entirely in magenta. In many of these narrow borders, especially those worked upon the blue and white stripes, the pattern is outlined in magenta and filled with rose, whilst the yellow outline is used on the green stripes. The design appears to have been marked on the wrong side of the cloth and the outline was probably worked from that side.
