To amend the Republic of South Africa Constitution Act, 1961.

Be it enacted by the State President, the Senate and the House of Assembly of the Republic of South Africa, as follows:―


Substitution of section 14 of Act 32 of 1961.

1. The following section is hereby substituted for section 14 of the Republic of South Africa Constitution Act, 1961:

“Salary of State President.

14. (1) There shall be paid to the State President out of and as a charge on the Consolidated Revenue Fund, in addition to any allowances appropriated from time to time by Parliament, and apart from any privileges which he may enjoy, a salary determined, subject to the provisions of subsection (3), by resolution of the Senate and the House of Assembly from time to time.

(2) The salary payable to the State President immediately prior to the commencement of this Act, shall be deemed to have been determined under subsection (1).

(3) The salary of the State President shall not be reduced during his term of office.”.


Amendment of section 15 of Act 32 of 1961, as amended by section 18 of Act 102 of 1965, section 2 of Act 79 of 1968 and section 1 of Act 93 of 1971.

2. Section 15 of the Republic of South Africa Constitution Act, 1961, is hereby amended by the substitution of the following paragraph for paragraph (a) of subsection (1):

“(a) to any person who has at any time after the first day of April, 1968, occupied the office of State President, a yearly pension at a rate equal to seventy-five per cent of the yearly salary to which he was entitled on the day upon which he vacated office;”.


Short title.

3. This Act shall be called the Constitution Amendment Act, 1974.
