��ARCHDEACONS OF NORTHAMPTON.

Gilbert Smith, S.T.P., was archdeacon of North- ampton before it was separated from the diocese of Lincoln, and so became the first archdeacon of this diocese, by the charter of erection, dated 4th Sept.

John Apharry, LL.D., chancellor of Llandaff, was ad- mitted 28th May 1548, on the resignation of Smith. Died in the beginning of 1549, and was buried in the church of Castor, near Peterborough.

William Jeffery, LL.D., was admitted 30th March 1549. He resigned in 1554.
