and permanent Capitol Building. It was ably supported by Hon. John A. Kasson who was elected to the House from Polk County for the purpose of securing the appropriation for a new State House. For years there had been strong opposition to the measure but never more determined than at this session. By judicious management, however, he succeeded in procuring an appropriation for the beginning of the great work which gave to the State a permanent building at a moderate cost, one which ranks among the most beautiful of State Capitols.
The Legislature ratified the fifteenth amendment to the National Constitution.
