India Goods, and for ascertaining the Values according to which such Duties shall be paid, the Importer or Importers thereof are, in like Manner to give Security by Bond for Payment of the said Duties according to the real Values of the said Goods, to be ascertained according to the respective Acts of Parliament in that Behalf made (except Coffee) as soon as the said Goods shall be sold, and also for exposing the said Goods to Sale openly and fairly by way of Auction, or by Inch of Candle, within the City of London, within the Time of twelve Months after the Importation thereof; and for as much as the restraining the 2 & 3 Ann. e.g. ' faid Muffins, White Callicoes, and unrated Eqjl-India Goods to be fold within tv/elve Months fiom the ' Importation thereof, may fome times be detrimental to the Revenue; and that the inlarging the faid Time ' of Sale will be for the Benefit of the Trade of this Kingdom :' Be it therefore enacted by the Authority aforefaid, That for fuch of the faid Goods as are at prefent imported and unfold, or fhall, from and after the faid four and twentieth Day of June one thoufand kven hundred and twenty-one, be imported, the Im- porter or Importers thereof may, at any Time within the Space of three Years from the Importation of fuch refpective Goods, expofe the fame to Sale, and after fuch Sale there fhall be allowed the like Difcounts on Payments of the refpective Duties on fuch Goods, as if the fame had been expofed to Sale within the Time of twelve Months, as before-mentioned, or any ether Time heretofore limited by Law; and from and after the faid four and twentieth Day of June one thoufand feven hundred and twenty-one, the Condi- tion of the Bond or Bonds to be given by the Importers for Payment of the laid Duties on the Goods before- mentioned, fhall be to expofe the fame to Sale within the Space of three Years from the Importation there- of; and the Importer or Importers of the faid Goods fhall be intitled to the fame Difcounts, Allowances, and Payments of the Duties upon the faid Goods, as if the fame had been fold within the faid Time of twelve Months; any Law, Ufage or Cuftom to the contrary notwithstanding. 3&4 Ann. c. 4. And whereas by an Act paffed in the third Year of the Reign of her late Majefty Queen Anne, cUufeforre- « for continuing Duties upon bow-Wines, and upon Coffee, Tea, Chocolate, Spices and Pictures, and of ^'""-i"-' ' u P on Hawkers, Pedlars and Petty Chapmen, and upon Muftins, and for granting new Duties upon feve- A& as relates ' ra l °f the faid Commodities, and alfo upon Callico, China Ware and Diugs;' It is enacted, That any to, or allows the Perfon or Perfons may import into this Kingdom Tea, fubject to the feveral Duties payable for the fame, Importing of from any Parts beyond the Seas, in Britijh Ships, navigated as therein mentioned, fo as Notice be firft given 7 ea by Licence to the Commiffioners of her Majefty's Cuftoms of the Quantity and Quality of the faid Tea fo intended to be imported, and the Place in which they intend to import the fame, and taking a Licence under the Hands of the faid Commiffioners for the Time being, or any three of them, for the landing and importing thereof, as aforefaid, which Act hath been fince continued, and is now in Force: And whereas the Method of granting thofe Licences, by an Act palled in the laft Sefiionof Parliament, intituled, An AH for preventing Frauds and Abujes in the Publick Revenues of Excije, Cuftoms, Stamp Duties, Poft- Office, and Houfe- Money, is al- tered and explained: And whereas under the Colour of fuch Licences great Frauds are committed, to the Pre- judice of his Majefty's Revenue; and forafmuch as it hath been found by Experience, That the allowing the Importation of Tea, by Virtue of fuch Licences or Certificates from OJlend, and other Places, not be- ing the Place of its Growth, tends to promote the illegal Trade carried on by his Majefty's Subjects to the Eaf -Indies under foreign Commiffions, and in Conjunction with Foreigners, and is very prejudicial to the ■ Trade and Navigation of this Kingdom; For the preventing thereof, Be it enacted by the Authority afore- faid, That from and after the faid four and twentieth Day of June one thoufand ieven hundred and twenty- one, fo much of the faid Act of the third Year of her faid late Majefty, and of the feveral Acts continuing the fame, and fo much of the faid Act of his prefent Majefty which paft the laft Seffions of Parliament, and every other Act which relates to or allows of the importing Tea by Licence or Certificate, as aforefaid, fhall be, and the fame are hereby repealed, annulled and made void, to all Intents and Purpofes what- foever.
