RECORDS OF THE FEDERAL CONVENTION 547 Saturday MADISON September 8 In the place of the Ist sect. 9 article. insert "The Senate of the United States shall have power to try "all impeachments: but no person shall be convicted without "the concurrence of two thirds of the Members present: and "ever 7 Member shall be on oath" which passed in the affirmative [Ayes- 9; noes- 2.] It was moved and seconded to agree to the following clause "The Legislature shall have the sole right of establishing offices not herein provided for" which passed in the negative [Ayes -- $; noes -- 8.] It was moved and seconded to amend the 3rd clause of the 2nd sect. IO article to read "He ma 7 convene both or either of the Houses on extra- ordinary occasions" which passed in the affirmative [Ayes m 7; noes- 4.] It was moved and seconded to appoint a Committee of five to revise the style of and arrange the articles agreed to by the House which passed in the affirmative And a Committee was appointed by ballot of the honorable Mr Johnson, Mr Hamilton, Mr G. Morris, Mr Madison and Mr King. [To reconsider the number of representatives Ayes--S; noes -- 6.1 The House adjourned. MADISON Saturday September 8th.
