(a) INITIAL COMPUTATION OF RETIRED PAY.—The text of section 8991 (relating to computation of retired pay) is amended to read as follows: "(a) COMPUTATION.—

"(1) IN GENERAL.—The monthly retired pay of a member entitled to such pay under this subtitle is computed according to the following table. For each case covered by a section of this title named in the column headed 'For sections', retired pay is computed by taking the steps prescribed opposite it in columns 1 and 2. "Formula
