PUBLIC LAW 101-188—NOV. 28, 1989 103 STAT. 1351 Public Law 101-188 c 101st Congress i Joint Resolution To designate the week of December 3, 1989, through December 9, 1989, as "National Nov. 28, 1989 American Indian Heritage Week". [S.J. Res. 218] Wheresis American Indians were the original inhabitants of the territories that now constitute the United States of America; Whereas American Indians and the descendants of such American Indians have made many essential contributions to this Nation; Whereas the citizens of the United States should be reminded of the assistance given to our Founding Fathers by the Native Ameri- cans; and Whereas the citizens of the United States should be aware of the present relationship between American Indians and the United States: Now, therefore, be it Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the week of December 3, 1989, through December 9, 1989, is designated as "National American Indian Heritage Week", and the President is authorized and requested to call upon Federal, State, and local governments, interested groups and organizations, and the people of the United States to observe such week with appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities.
