113 STAT. 654 PUBLIC LAW 106-65—OCT. 5, 1999 "(2) A bonus may only be paid under this section to a person who meets each of the following requirements: "(A) The person has completed a military service obligation, but has less than 14 years of total military service, and received an honorable discharge at the conclusion of that military service obligation. "(B) The person was not released, or is not being released, from active service for the purpose of enlistment in a reserve component. "(C) The person is projected to occupy, or is occupying, a position as a member of the Selected Reserve in a specialty in which the person— "(i) successfully served while a member on active duty and attained a level of qualification while on active duty commensurate with the grade and years of service of the member; or "(ii) has completed training or retraining in the specialty skill that is designated as critically short and attained a level of qualification in the specialty skill that is commensurate with the grade and years of service of the member. "(D) The person has not previously been paid a bonus (except under this section) for enlistment, reenlistment, or extension of enlistment in a reserve component.". Applicability. (b) EFFECTIVE DATE. —The amendment made by subsection (a) 37 USC 308i shall take effect on October 1, 1999, and shall apply to enlistments ^°^^- beginning on or after that date. SEC. 624. INCREASE IN SPECIAL PAY AND BONUSES FOR NUCLEAR- QUALIFIED OFFICERS. (a) SPECIAL PAY FOR NUCLEAR-QUALIFIED OFFICERS EXTENDING PERIOD OF ACTIVE SERVICE. —Section 312(a) of title 37, United States Code, is amended by striking "$15,000" and inserting " $25,000 ". (b) NUCLEAR CAREER ACCESSION BONUS. —Section 312b(a)(l) of such title is amended by striking "$10,000" and inserting . " $20,000". (c) NUCLEAR CAREER ANNUAL INCENTIVE BONUSES. —Section 312c of such title is amended— (1) in subsection (a)(1), by striking "$12,000" and inserting " $22,000"; and (2) in subsection (b)(1), by striking "$5,500" and inserting " $10,000". Applicability. (d) EFFECTIVE DATE.— (1) The amendments made by subsections 37 USC 312 note, (a) and (b) shall take effect on October 1, 1999, and shall apply to agreements under section 312 or 312b of such title entered into on or after that date. 37 USC 312c (2) The amendments made by subsection (c) shall take effect note. on October 1, 1999, and shall apply with respect to nuclear service years beginning on or after that date. SEC. 625. INCREASE IN MAXIMUM MONTHLY RATE AUTHORIZED FOR FOREIGN LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY PAY. (a) INCREASE.— Section 316(b) of title 37, United States Code, is amended by striking "$100" and inserting "$300". Applicability.
