(1) in subsection (c)(1), by striking "during the period beginning on October 1, 1990, and ending on December 31, 2001"; and (2) in subsection (e), by striking the first sentence. (c) REPEAL OF SUPERSEDED AUTHORITY. —(1) Section 1074b of title 10, United States Code, is repealed. (2) The table of sections at the beginning of chapter 55 of such title is amended by striking the item relating to section 1074b. (d) TRANSITION PROVISION.— Notwithstanding the repeal of section 1074b of title 10, United States Code, by subsection (c), the provisions of that section, as in effect before the date of the enactment of this Act, shall continue to apply to a member of the Armed Forces who is released from active duty in support of a contingency operation before that date. SEC. 737. TWO-YEAR EXTENSION OF HEALTH CARE MANAGEMENT DEMONSTRATION PROGRAM. (a) EXTENSION. —Subsection (d) of section 733 of the Floyd D. Spence National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2001 (as enacted by Public Law 106-398; 114 Stat. 1654A-191) is amended by striking "December 31, 2001" and inserting "December 31, 2003". (b) REPORT.— Subsection (e) of that section is amended— (1) by striking "REPORTS. — " and inserting "REPORT.— "; and (2) by striking "March 15, 2002" and inserting "March 15, 2004". SEC. 738. JOINT DOD-VA PILOT PROGRAM FOR PROVIDING GRADUATE MEDICAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING FOR PHYSICIANS. (a) IN GENERAL. —The Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of Veterans Affairs may jointly carry out a pilot program under which graduate medical education and training is provided to military physicians and physician employees of the Department of Defense and the Department of Veterans Affairs through one or more programs carried out in military medical treatment facilities of the Department of Defense and medical centers of the Department of Veterans Affairs. (b) COST-SHARING AGREEMENT.—If the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of Veterans Affairs carry out a pilot program under subsection (a), the Secretaries shall enter into an agreement for carrying out the pilot program under which means are established for each respective Secretary to assist in paying the costs, with respect to individuals under the jurisdiction of such Secretary, incurred by the other Secretary in providing medical education and training under the pilot program. (c) USE OF EXISTING AUTHORITIES.— TO carry out the pilot program, the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of Veterans Affairs shall exercise authorities provided to the Secretaries, respectively, under other laws relating to the furnishing or support of medical education and the cooperative use of facilities. (d) PERIOD OF PROGRAM.—If the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of Veterans Affairs carry out a pilot program under subsection (a), such pilot program shall begin not later than August 1, 2002, and shall terminate on July 31, 2007. (e) REPORTS.—I f the Secretary of Defense and the Secretary Deadlines, of Veterans Affairs carry out a pilot program under subsection (a), not later than January 31, 2003, and January 31 of each 10 USC 1094a note.
