123STA T . 11 64PUBLIC LA W 111 – 11 —M A R .3 0, 200 9‘ ‘ (A)STUDYREQ U I RED .—The Se cr e ta r yof the In ter i or s ha l l u n d erta k e a study of the shared routes of the C ali - fornia Trail and O re g on Trail listed in su bp aragraph ( B ) and generally depicted on the m ap entitled ‘ W estern E migrant Trails 1830/ 18 7 0 ’ and dated 1 9 91/1993 , and of such other shared routes that the Secretary considers appropriate, to determine the feasibility and suitability of designation of 1 or more of the routes as shared compo- nents of the California N ational H istoric Trail and the Oregon National Historic Trail. ‘‘(B) C OV ERED ROUTE S .—The routes to be studied under subparagraph (A) shall include the follo w ing

‘‘(i) St. J oe R oad. ‘‘(ii) Council Bluffs Road. ‘‘(iii) Sublette cutoff. ‘‘(i v ) Applegate route. ‘‘(v) Old F ort K earny Road (O x bow Trail). ‘‘(vi) Childs cutoff. ‘‘(vii) Raft River to Applegate.’’. SEC.530 3.C HI SH OLMTRA ILA NDG REAT W ESTERN TRAILS ST U DIES. Section 5 (c) of the National Trails System Act (1 6U .S.C. 1 24 4(c)) is amended by adding at the end the following: ‘‘(44) C H ISHO LM TR A IL.— ‘‘(A) I NG ENERAL.—The Chisholm Trail (also known as the ‘Abilene Trail’), from the vicinity of San Antonio, Texas, segments from the vicinity of Cuero, Texas, to Ft. Worth, Texas, D uncan, Oklahoma, alternate segments used through Oklahoma, to Enid, Oklahoma, Caldwell, Kansas, Wichita, Kansas, Abilene, Kansas, and commonly used seg- ments running to alternative Kansas destinations. ‘‘(B) REQUIREMENT.—In conducting the study re q uired under this paragraph, the Secretary of the Interior shall identify the point at which the trail originated south of San Antonio, Texas. ‘‘(45) G REAT W ESTERN TRAIL.— ‘‘(A) IN GENERAL.—The Great Western Trail (also known as the ‘Dodge City Trail’), from the vicinity of San Antonio, Texas, north-by-northwest through the vicinities of Kerrville and M enard, Texas, north-by-northeast through the vicinities of Coleman and Albany, Texas, north through the vicinity of V ernon, Texas, to Doan’s Crossing, Texas, northward through or near the vicinities of Altus, L one Wolf, Canute, Vici, and May, Oklahoma, north through Kansas to Dodge City, and north through Nebraska to Ogallala. ‘‘(B) REQUIREMENT.—In conducting the study required under this paragraph, the Secretary of the Interior shall identify the point at which the trail originated south of San Antonio, Texas.’’.
