Congress — (1) reaffirms its support for the recovery and return to the United States of the remains of members of the Armed Forces k illed in battle, and for the efforts by the J oint POW - MI A Accounting Command to recover the remains of members of the Armed Forces from all wars

(2) recognizes the courage and sacrifice of the members of the Armed Forces who fought on T arawa Atoll; ( 3 ) acknowledges the dedicated research and efforts by persons to identify, locate, and advocate for the recovery of remains from Tarawa; and (4) encourages the D epartment of Defense to review this research and, as appropriate, pursue new efforts to conduct field studies, new research, and undertake all feasible efforts to recover, identify, and return remains of members of the Armed Forces from Tarawa. Subti t leF—D e cora tio ns an dAw ards SEC. 55 1 . AUTHORI Z ATION AND RE Q UEST FOR AWARD OF MEDAL OF HONOR TO ANTHONY T. KAHO ’ OHANOHANO FOR ACTS OF VALOR DURING THE KOREAN WAR. (a) A UTHORIZA TIO N .— N otwithstanding the time limitations specified in section 3 7 44 of title 10, United States Code, or any other time limitation with respect to the awarding of certain medals to persons who served in the Armed Forces, the President is author- ized and re q uested to award the Medal of H onor under section 3741 of such title to former Private First Class Anthony T. K aho ’ ohanohano for the acts of valor during the Korean War described in subsection (b). (b) A C T S O FV A L ORD E SCRI B E D .—The acts of valor referred to in subsection (a) are the actions of then Private First Class Anthony T. Kaho’ohanohano of Company H of the 17th Infantry R egiment of the 7th Infantry Division on September 1, 1 95 1, during the Korean War for which he was originally awarded the Distin- guished-Service Cross. SEC. 55 2 . AUTHORIZATION AND REQUEST FOR AWARD OF DISTIN - GUISHED-SERVICE CROSS TO J ACK T. STEWART FOR ACTS OF VALOR DURING THE VIETNAM WAR. (a) AUTHORIZATION.—Notwithstanding the time limitations specified in section 3744 of title 10, United States Code, or any other time limitation with respect to the awarding of certain medals to persons who served in the Armed Forces, the Secretary of the Army is authorized and requested to award the Distinguished- Service Cross under section 3742 of such title to former Captain Presid e nt.
