And the said Butler, on entering upon the discharge of the duties of any office to which he has been or may be 1862,ch.128. elected or appointed, instead of the oath prescribed by the act of July V°l- xii- P- *0*- two, eighteen hundred and sixty-two, shall take and subscribe the follow- 0“th• ing oath: I, Roderick R. Butler, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion, and that I will faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter, so help me God. Be il enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives q/'the United %hl;?¤Si°¤I;° States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Inbowfggnterior is hereby authorized and directed to place the name of Sherman H. Cowles, late a private in company E, nineteenth regiment Connecticut volunteers, on the pension roll, at the rate of eight dollars per mouth, to commence from the eighteenth day of May, eighteen hundred and sixty- three, and to continue during his natural life. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representat£ves of the I/hitad cP¤;q¤i<>¤tg States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the In- M‘;:_‘g;';zt“é‘wurt_ tenor is hereby authorized and directed to place upon the pension rolls noun. the names of Caroline and Margaret Swartwout, sisters of Samuel Swartwout, late zt commodore in the navy of the United States, and to pay to them, or the survivor of them, a pension at the rate of thirty dollars per month from the fifteenth day of February, in the year eighteen hundred and sixty-seven, during their joint lives and the life of the survivor.
