For surveying the public lands, three hundred thousand dollars, to Surveys of pull. bg immediately available at rates not exceeding twelve dollars per linear lic l¤·¤<i¤· mile for standard and meander lines, ten dollars for township, and eight dollars for section lines, except that the Commissioner of the General Land Office may allow, for the survey of standard and meander lines through lands heavily timbered, mountainous, or covered with dense undergrowth, a sum not exceeding sixteen dollars per linear mile for standard lines, fourteen dollars for township, and ten dollars for section lines: Provided, That the part of the sum hereby appropriated which Promise. may be apportioned to the surveying district of Louisiana, together with such sums as have been or may be deposited for surveys therein by actual settlers, under sections two thousand four hundred and one, R. S. 2401. two thousand four hundred and two, two thousand four hundred and R-$-2402. three of the Revised Statutes, may be, in whole or in part, employed in R· S2403- making such resurveys as may be necessary in the discretion of the Commissioner of the General Land Office.
