Averell Aumm L 1888- Be zt enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled. That i11 view of the §’““**,*}3W· A*€="“· long and faithful services of Brevet Major-General William W. captadin m .ili·ft°;?t:g Averell, United States Army, before and during the late war, and of °“’°d· severe wounds received by him in battle, the President be, and he is hereby, authorized to nominate and, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, to appoint William W. Averell, brevet majorgeneral United States Army and late brigadier-general United States Volunteers, to the position of captain in the Army of the United States, and to place him on the retired list of the Army as of that grade, the retired list being thereby increasedin number to that extent; and all laws and parts of laws in conflict herewith are suspended for this purpose only: Provided, That from and after the P’°°”°- passage of this act no pension shall be paid to the said William W. P°”Si°” *°°“—“· Averell, nor shall any compensation be paid to him for any period prior to his appointment under this act Approved, August 1, 1888.
