P~•¤¤¤¢· Whereas dining the Nez Perce Indian war of eighteen hundred and seventy-seven and eighteen hundred and seventy-eight the State of Oregon, in order to arm and equi the militia and volunteers of said State called into service by the governor of said State to sup ress Indian hostilities, borrowed o the Territory of Washiiégtbn three hundred and twenty breech-loading Springfield rifles, c iber fifty, model of eighteen hundred and sixty-six; two hundred and sixtyitwo breec -loading Springfield rifles, caliber fifty, model of eig teen hundred and sixty-eight; five hundred and eighty-two screw-drivers; forty-seven thousand four hundred and fordty-five ball cartridges, caliber fifty; and thirty-one arm·chests; an Whereas a large portion of said ordnance and ordnance stores have been lost an rendered useless in service; and Whereas said State has not arms and accouterments nor credit on her ordnance account sntlicient to return said arms, and so forth, borrowed: Therefore .
