Ch. 146. 1895. 699 _ CHAP. 146.-An Act To amend "An Act to amend section forty-four hundred of Much 1, 1895. trtle fifty-two of the Revised Statutes of the United States, concerning the regula- Witron of steam vessels," approved August seventh, eighteen hundred and eighty-two; and also to amend section forty-four hundred and fourteen, title fifty-two, of the Revised Statutes, “Regulation of steam vessels." Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Rqwesentatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the “Act to amend smm vmsn. section rorty-four hundred of title fifty-two of the Revised Statutes of sjing i°·P°°*·°’¤ the United States," approved August seventh, eighteen hundred and R.S.,sec.4400,p.852, eighty-two, be, and the same is hereby, amended by striking out from "'{?,'f§‘,,_3_,,, the iirst section thereof all after the word “ aforesaid,” in the fourteenth y ` line of said section, also sections two to six, inclusive, of said Act. Sec. 2. That section lorty-four hundred and fourteen of the Revised _,,{,““,,§f§g" °’ *“'“' Statutes be amended to read as follows: n.s.,m.m•,p.s.=4, “ Sec. 4414. There shall be, in each of the following collection districts, “"‘°"°°°* one inspector of hulls and one inspector of boilers, namely: The districts of New York, New York; Boston, Massachusetts; Philadelphia, P1¤¤<>¤· Pennsylvania; San Francisco California; Albany, New York; New London,Connecticut; Baltimore, Maryland; Buifalo,N ew York; Cleveland, Ohio; New Orleans, Louisiana; Norfolk, Virginia; Saint Louis, Missouri; Dubuque, Iowa; Detroit, Michigan; Chicago, Illinois; Michigan, Mic 1>· 84* Michigan; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Port Huron, Michigan; Willamette, Oregon; Portland, Maine; Puget Sound, Washiiigton; Savannah, Georgia; Pittsburg, Pennsylvania; Oswego, New York; Charleston, South Carolina; Dulutlg Minnesota; Louisville, Kentucky; Evansville, Indiana; Memphis, ennessee; Nashville, Tennessee; Cincinnati, Ohio; Gallipolis, Ohio; Wheeling. West Virginia; Superior, Michigan; Burlington, Vermont; Apalachicola, Florida; Galveston, Texas; Mobile, Alabama; and Providence, Rhode Island. “The inspector of hulls and the inspector of boilers in the districts S'“*'*°• enumerated in the preceding paragraph shall be entitled to the following salaries, to be paid under the direction of the Secretary of the Treasury, namely: _ In districts inspecting one hundred steamers and less to a salary of B•¤i¤· one thousand two hundred dollars per year each. “ In districts inspecting over one hundred and less than one hundred and fifty steamers, to a salary of one thousand five hundred dollars per year each. “ In districts inspecting one hundred and fifty and less than two hundred steamers, to a salary of one thousand eight hundred dollars per year each. “ In districts inspecting two hundred and less than three hundred steamers, to a salary of two thousand dollars per year each. “ Indistriots inspecting three hundred and less than five hundred steamers, to a salary of two thousand two hundred and fifty dollars per year each. ·‘ In districts inspecting five hundred steamers and upward, to a salary of two thousand five hundred dollars per year each. " The Supervising Inspector-General shall report to the Secretary of ,,,£"P°'* °’ ‘"°P°° the Treasury the number of inspections for the year next preceding the ‘ approval of this Act and thereafter, at the end of each iiscal year, the number of steamers inspected in each local district in that year, which number shall be the basis upon which shall be determined the salaries to be paid to local inspectors for the following fiscal year, in the ratio described in the preceding paragraphs of this section.
