REPAIRS, BUREAU or MEDICINE AND SURGERY: For necessary repairs R<=I>¤im of naval laboratory and department of instruction, naval hospitals and appendages, including roads, wharfs, outhouses, sidewalks, fences, gardens, farms, and cemeteries, twenty thousand dollars. SUPPLIES AND ACCOUNTS. angugiiggmsuppuw PROVISIONS, NAVY: For provisions and commuted rations for the P’°‘”“i°¤S· seamen and marines, which commuted rations may be paid to caterers of messes, in cases of death or desertion, upon orders of the commanding officer; commuted rations for officers on sea duty (other than commissioned officers of the line, medical and pay corps and chief boat-_ Swains, chief gunners, chief sailmakers, chief carpenters) and naval cadets, and commuted rations stopped on account of sick in hospital and credited to the naval hospital fund; Subsistence of officers and men unavoidably detained or absent from vessels to which attached under orders (during which subsistence rations to be stopped on board ship and no credit for commutation therefor to be given); labor in general storehouses and paymasterS’ offices in navy-yards, including naval stations maintained in island possessions under the control of the United States, and expenses in handling stores purchased under the navalsupply fund; one chemist, at two thousand five hundred dollars per annum, and two chemists, at two thousand dollars each per annum, three million two hundred and fifty thousand dollars.
