Be it enacted by the Senate and JYOa8e of Rep7·esentat2Z·ves of the Chutea [ 1 States of .»121¢erz'¢·a in Cbngress assembterl, That there are hereby ,f,,“,t,‘,f;`,`ff[f"“,Q,“f)‘; _reserved from settlement, entry, sale, or other disposal all those cer- Spri¤s¤.S.Da1$. tain tracts, pieces, or parcels of land lying and being situate in the Lands r°s°w°d il"' State of South Dakota and within the boundaries particularly described as follows: Beginning at the southwest corner of section eighteen, D"S°“p“°“· township seven south, range six east, Black Hills meridian; thence east to the southeast corner of said section eighteen; thence south to the southwest corner of the northwest quarter of section twenty; thence east to the southeast corner of the northeast quarter of section twenty-one; thence north to the northeast corner of the southeast quarter of section nine; thence west to the center of section seven; thence south to the southwest corner of the southeast quarter of sec-I tion seven; thence west to the northwest corner of section eighteen; thence south to the place of beginning, all in township seven south, range six east, Black Hills meridian, in Fall River County, South _ Dakota: Prmrzided, That nothing herein contained shall be construed $'§’{§’g· rights ,,0, to affect any valid rights acquired in connection with any of the lands ¤¤¤<=¢¤¤- ~ embraced within the limits of said reserve. Sec. 2. That said reserve shall be known as the Battle Mountain m;`ff“"’ °‘ "°“°"“‘ Sanitarium Reserve, and shall be under the exclusive control of the G<>¤tr<>1¤f- Board of Managers of the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers in connection with the Battle Mountain Sanitariiim at Hot Springs, South Dakota, whose duty it shall be to prescribe such rules and regulations and establish such service as they may deem necessary _ for the care and management of the same. _ SEO. 3. That in all cases of unperfected bona tide claims lying within c;£,{§°°°‘ °°°°°d° the said boundaries of said reserve, which claims have been properly initiated prior to September second, nineteen hundred and two, said claims may be perfected upon compliance with the requirements of the laws respecting settlement, residence, improvements, and so forth, in the same manner in all res cts as claims are perfected to other Gov- _ ernment lands: Pr<w2'ded, That to the extent that the lands within £‘{,'{,'j‘Qu,,eu°,_ said reserve are held in rivate ownership the Secretary of the Interior is hereby authorized in Ihis discretion to exchange therefor public lands of like area and value, which are surveyed, vacant, unappropriated, not mineral, not timbered, and not required for reservoir sites or other public uses or purposes. The private owners must, at their expense pr§’y;{gQQg{,;{*°*°*°¤ and by appropriate instruments of conveyance, surrender to the Government a full and unencumbered right and title to the private lands included in any exchange before tents are issued for or any rights attached to the public lands inclriixded therein, and no charge ofg any kind shall be made for issuing such patents. Upon completion of any exchange the lands surrendered to the Government shall become a part of said reserve in a like manner as if they had been public lands at the time of the establishment of said reserve.
