That in the case of articles of merchandise nnade in whole or marked tineness sn- in part of gold or of any of 1ts alloys so imported into or exported "’“'°"· from the United States, or so deposited in the United States mails for transmission, or so delivered for transportation to any common C81'\'i€1', or so transported or caused to be transported as speciticd in the iirst section of this Act, the actual iincncss of such gold or alloy shall not he less by more than 0nc—half of one carat than the iineness indicated by the mark stamped, branded, cngravcd, or printed upon any part of such article, or upon any tug, card, or label attavlnvd th<·r•~to, or upou any box, pawkngc, cover, or wmppcr in which such m·ti¢·l<· is incnscd or incloscd; except that in the case of watch cases and Hat warm-. so made of gold or of any of its ulloys, the actual tirnmwss of such gold or alloy shall not be less by rnorc than thrvc oncthousandth parts than the tin<—n•·¤s indicated by tho mark staunped,
