SIXTY-FIRST CONGRESS. sms. 111. cn. 242. 1911. 1341 CHAP. 242.-An Act Making appropriations for fortifications and other works March 4,1911. of defense, for the armament thereof, or the procurement of heavy ordnance for trial [H·R·328°5·] and service, and for other purposes. ° Be it enacted by the Semzte and House of Re esentatives of the United States of Arnemca in Congress assembled, Tliiit the sums of money ¥`°{,"“°°“°”°°PP¤* herem provided for be, and the same are hereby, appropriated, out of Pm om any money in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated, to be availab e until expended, namely: FORTIFIOATIONS AND OTHER WORKS OF DEFENSE. `UNDER THE ENGINEER DEPARTMENT. m£>:gi¤¤¤r1>¢r¤r¢- For constructionof iire·control stations and accessories, including .F**H¤¤¢r¤¤ ¤¤¤- purchase of lands and rights of way, and for the purchase and installa— mm tion of necessary lines and means of electrical communication, including telephones, dial and other telegraphs, wiring and all special ‘ instruments, apparatus, and materials, coast signal apparatus, and salaries of electrical experts, engineers, and other necessary employees connected with the use of coast artillery; for the purchase, manu- R•¤¤¤¤¤¤¢¤·¤¤>- · facture, and test of range finders and other instruments for fire control at the fortifications, and the machinery necessary for their ‘ manufacture at the arsenals, one hundred thousand dollars. For mstallation and replacement of electric light and power plants P¤v¢r1>1•¤¤- at seacoast fortifications, fifty thousand dollars. For purchase and installation of searchlights for the defenses of our $•·¤’¢¤¤*8¤¤ most miportant harbors, Efty thousand dollars. Forithe protection, preservation, and repair of fortifications for P‘°’°"'“°“•°°°· which there may be no special appropriation available, three hundred thousand dollars. For pre aration of plans for fortifications, five thousand dollars. P"“‘ For tools, electrical and engine supplies and appliances, to be fur- E1¤<=¤·i¤1>1¤¤•·¤· nished by the Engineer De artment, for the use of the troops for maintaining and o erating el)ectric lioht and power plants in gun and mortar batteries, flirty-five thousanda dollars. For preservation and repair of structures erected for the torpedo T°'P°°‘° ’“‘“°‘“’°*· defense of the United States, twenty thousand dollars. Construction of mining casemates, cable galleries, torpedo store- §.,‘f;_,*¤gL¤° "**°°°· houses, cable tanks, and other structures necessary for the operation, ` preservation, and care of submarine mines and their accessories, fifty thousand dollars.
