A PROCLAMATION WHEREAS it appears that the public good will be promoted by Sitzmvss Netieml adding to the Sitgreaves National Forest certain lands within the Fi·ri$i1ii>iK` Territory of Arizona which are in part covered with timber, and by eliminating from said Forest certain lands; 1 Now, therefore, I, William H. Taft, President of the United States ]$‘Z,‘§°§,”f'I§?§§{‘°d*°°d‘ of America, by v1rtue of the power in me vested by the Act of Congress approved June fourth, eighteen hundred and ninety-seven, entitled "An Act Making appropriations for sundry civil expenses of the Government for the fiscal year ending June thirtieth, eighteen hundred and ninety-eight, and for other pur oses," do proclaim that the boundaries of the Sitgreaves Natwnall Forest are hereby changled and that they are now as shown on the diagram forming a part ereof: The withdrawal made by this proclamation shall, as to all lands ;,§§',{’ "gms mt “' which are at this date legally appropriated under the public land laws or reserved for any ubhc purpose, be subject to and shall not interfere with or defeat legal rights under suc appropriation, nor prevent the use for such public purpose of lands so reserved, so long as such appropriation is legally mamtained or such reservation remains in force: rovided, That all the rights, powers, and duties of the {Z$‘,m,t, N. Secretary of the Interior and the Commissioner of Indian Affairs, $°"°°· and all rights and privileges of their permittees and the Indians, _ reserved and confirmed by the proclamation of the President of the v°"3°’*"m° United States of March second, nineteen hundred and nine, enlarging the Sitgreaves National Forest, shall remain in full force and effect, notwithstanding anything in this proclamation contained. Lands mmm, ,0 The lands hereby eliminated from the Sitgreaves National Forest putncaomsm. which are not embraced in withdrawals for administrative sites for use in the management of the Forest, or in any other reservation or appropriation, s all be restored to the public domain and become su mject to settlement under the general provisions of the homestead laws on such date and after such notice y npublication as the Secretary of the Interior may prescribe, but sh not become subject to entry, filing, selection or other form of appropriation until the expiration of thirty days from the date so fixe , except that on the same date as the lands eliminated become subject to settlement, the Terri- ° tory of Arizona may, if the lands eliminated are subject to such selec- _ tion, select as indemnity in the satisfaction of its common school l,,,I',§'$,'§$Zm?°°°°| grant, not to exceed two sections of land in each entire township restored, or one section in each fractional plortion of a township where the restored area thereof exceeds five thousand (5,000) acres, and no person will be permitted to acquire or exercise any right whatever under any settlement or occupancy be n prior to such date and all such settlement or occupation is hereily forbidden.
