A PROCLAMATION w§*g’jL'“‘ N“*·i°“"l F°" WHEREAS it ap]§ars that the public good will be promoted by §'reamble.65 adding to the Shasta ational Forest certain lands within the State of ‘ m’p‘ 27 California which are in art covered with timber, by eliminating therefrom certain lands, andp by transferring to the Trinity National Forest lg; portion of the area heretofore em raced in the Shasta National orest; {’,$,}f"3g§“l‘;‘F&m°d’“°d· Now, therefore, I, H. Taft, President of the United States ' of America, by virtue of the power in me vested by the Act of Congress approved June fourth, eighteen hundred and ninety-seven, entitled “An Act Making appropriations for sundry civil expenses of the Government for the fiscal ear ending June thirtieth, eighteen hundred and ninety-eght, and for other purposes," do proclaim that the boundaries of the hasta National Forest are hereby changed and that they are now as shown on the diagram formin a part hereof. fwptgly f*¤¤*= ¤°* M- The withdrawal made by this proclamation shah, as to all lands ' which are at this date legally appropriated under the public land laws or reserved for an r public purpose, be subject to and shall not interfere with or defeat legal rights under such appropriation, nor prevent the ~ use for such public purpose of lands so reserved, so long as such appropriation is legally maintained or such reservation remains in force. gggiggltgrgama This proclamation shall not prevent the settlement and entry of any ‘ ` ’ ' lands heretofore opened to settlement and entry under the Act of Conapproved June eleventh, nineteen hundred and six, entitled “An ict To provide for the entry of Agricultural lands within forest reserves. pu‘g{{;dgnmm”?l§f”d *° The lands hereby eliminated from the Shasta National Forest which are not embraced m withdrawals for administrative sites for use in the management of the Forest, or in any other reservation or appropria— tion, shall be restored to the public domain and become subject to settlement under the general provisions of the homestead laws on such date and after such notice by ublication as the Secretarv of the Interier may prescribe, but shall) not become subject to entry, filing,

  • ¤ selection, or other form of appropriation until the expiration of thirty

days from the date so fixed, except that on the same date as the lands bgg<i;&¤g;0>gs?¢h¤¤1 eliminated become subject to settlement, the State of California may, if the lands eliminated are subject to such selection, select as indemnity in the satisfaction of its common school grant, not to exceed two sections of land in each entire township restored, or one section in each fractional portion of a township where the restored area thereof exceeds five thousand (5,000) acres, and no person will be ermitted to acquire or exercise any right whatever under any settliement or occupancy begun prior to such date, and all such settlement or occupa- y tion is hereby for idden.
