Be it enacted by the Senate and House o f Representatives o f the United States o f America in Congress assembled, That the following sums are appropriated, out of any money in the Treasury not other- wise appropriated, for the Navy Department and the naval service for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1930, namely Na val Est ablish- ment .

actual expenses of officers and midshipmen while on shor e pa trol duty, including the hire of automobiles when necessary for the use of shore patrol detachments; hire of launches or other small boats in Asiatic waters; for rent of buildings and offices not in navy yards; expenses of courts-martial, including law and reference books, prisoners and prisons, and courts of inquiry, boards of inspection, examining boards, with clerks, and witnesses' fees, and traveling expenses and costs; expenses of naval defense districts; stationery Advertising, etc. and recording; religious books; newspapers and periodicals for the naval service; all advertising for the Navy Department and its bureaus (except advertising for recruits for the Bureau of Naviga- tion); copying; ferriage; tolls; costs of suits; relief of vessels in distress; recovery of valuables from shipwrecks; quarantine expenses; reports; professional investigation; cost of special instruction at abroad, rmction from home and abroad, including maintenance of students and attaches; information from abroad and at home, and the collection and classifi- cation thereof; all charges pertaining to the Navy Department and its bureaus for ice for the cooling of drinking water on shore (except at naval hospitals), and not to exceed $170,000 for telephone rentals Interned prisoners of and tolls, telegrams and cablegrams; postage, foreign and domestic, war, etc. and post-office box rentals; for necessary expenses for interned per- sons and prisoners of war under the jurisdiction of the Navy Depart- ment, includ ing fu neral expen ses fo r s uch in terned perso ns or Damages claims .
