For printing, law books, books of reference, directories, periodicals, stationery, binding and rebinding, preservation of records, type- writers a nd repair s thereto , fuel, i ce, gas, electric lights an d power, te lephon e serv ice, l aundry work, remov al of a shes a nd rub bish, mops, br ooms, bucket s, dus ters, sponge s, pai nter's and pl umber' s supp lies, toilet articles, medicines, soap and disinfectants, lodging and meals for jurors and bailiffs when ordered by the court, United States flags and halyards, and all other necessary and incidental expenses of every kind not otherwise provided for, $8,700 . For witness fees, $1,500 . For compensation of jurors, $40,000 . For repairs and alterations to building, $2,500 . MUNICIPAL COURT Salaries : For personal services in accordance with the Classifica- tion Act of 1923, including $300 additional for presiding judge, $58,736 . For compensation of jurors, $6,000 : Provided, That deposits made on demands for jury trials in accordance with rules prescribed by the court under authority granted in section 11 of the Act approved Mar ch 3, 192 1 (Fo rty-f irst Stat utes, pag e 131 2), s hall be e arned unles s, prior to three days befo re the ti me set f or such t rials, in clud- ing Sundays and legal holidays, a- new date for trial be set by the court, cases be discontinued or settled, or demands for jury trials be waived. For rent of building, $4,800 . For contingent expenses, including books, law books, books of reference, fuel, light, telephone, blanks, dockets, lodging and meals for jurors, and for deputy United States marshals while in attend- ance upon jurors, when ordered by the court, fixtures, repairs to furn iture, build ing, a nd bui lding equipme nt, an d all other necess ary miscellaneous items and supplies, $5,000 . SUPREME COURT, DI STR ICT OF CO LUM BIA Salaries : Chief justice, $10,500 ; five associate justices, at $10,000 each ; six stenographers, one for the chief justice and one for each associate justice, $14,400 ; in all, $74,900 . FEES OF WITNESSES : For mileage and per diem of witnesses and for per diems in lieu of subsistence, and payment of the actual expenses of witnesses in said court as provided by section 850, Revised Statutes of the United States, $33,000 . FEES OF JURORS : For mileage and per diems of jurors, $82,000 . PAY OF BAILIFFS : For not exceeding one crier in each court, of office deputy marshals who act as bailiffs or criers, and for expenses of meals and lodging for jurors in United States cases and of bailiffs in a ttend ance upon same when orde red by th e cou rt, clerk of j ury commissioners, and per diems of jury commissioners, $41,903 : Pro- vided, That the compensation of each jury commissioner for the fiscal year 1929 shall not exceed $250 . PROBATION SYSTEM : For personal services, $8,920 ; contingent expenses, $500 ; in all, $9,420. COURTHOUSE : For person al ser vices for ca re and protec tion o f the courthouse, under the direction of the United States marshal of the Distric t of C olumbi a, $29 ,704, to be expende d unde r the direct ion of the Attorney General . For repairs and improvements to the courthouse, including repair and maintenance of the mechanic al equipment, and for labor and material and every item incident thereto, S2 .500, to be expended under the direction of the Architect of the Capitol .
