Grade 1. Grade 1 in this service, which may be referred to as the junior Junior professional . profes sional gr ade, shal l include all clas ses of po sitions t he duties of which are to perform, under immediate supervision, simple and elementary work requiring professional, scientific, or technical train- ing as herein specified but little or no experience . The annual rates of compensation for positions in this grade shall Annual p ay. be $2,000, $2,100, $2,200, $2,300, $2,400, and $2,500 . Grade 2 in this service, which may be referred to as the assistant Assistant profession. professi onal grad e, shall include a ll class es of pos itions th e duties of al . which are to perform, under immediate or general supervision, indi- vidually or with a small number of subordinates, work requiring profes sional , scie ntific , or t echnic al trai ning a s here in spe cified , previous experience, and, to a limited extent, the exercise of inde- pendent judgment . The annual rates of compensation for positions in this grade shall Annua l p ay. b e $2,600, $2,700, $2,800, $2,900, $3,000, and $3,100 . Grade 3 in this service, which may be referred to as the associate Gradate profession- professional grade, shall include all classes of positions the duties al . of which are to perform, individually or with a small number of trained assistants, under general supervision but with considerable latitude for the exercise of independent judgment, responsible work requiring extended professional, scientific, or technical training and co nsider able p reviou s expe rience . The annual rates of co mpensa tion f or posi tions in thi s grad e shal l Annua l p ay. b e $3,200, $3,300, $3,400, $3,500, $3,600, and $3,700 .

Grade 4 . Grade 4 in this service, which may be referred to as the full Full professional . professional grade, shall jnclude all classes of positions the duties of which are to perform, under general supervision, difficult and re sponsi ble wo rk req uiring consi derabl e profe ssiona l, sci entifi c, or technical training and experience, and the exercise of independent judgment. The annual rates of co mpensa tion f or posi tions in thi s grad e shal l Annual pay. be $3,800, $4,000, $4,200, and $4,400 .

Grade 5 . Grade 5 in this service, which may be referred to as the senior Senior professional . professional grade, shall include all classes of positions the duties of which are to perform, under general administrative supervision, important specialized work requiring extended professional, scientific, or technical training and experience, the exercise of independent judgment, and the assumption of responsibility for results, or for the administration of a small scientific or technical organization .

Annualpay . The a nnual rates of com pensat ion fo r posit ions i n this grade shall be $4,600, $4,800, $5,000, and $5,200, unless a higher rate is specifically authorized by law .

Grade 6. Grade 6 in this service, which may be referred to as the principal P rinci pal profe ssion - pro fessional grade, s hall incl ude all c lasses of position s the dut ies of all wh ich are t o act as assistant head of a major professio nal or sc ientific organization, or to act as administrative head of a major subdivision of such an organization, or to act as head of a small professional or sci entific o rganizati on, or to serve, a s consult ing speci alist, or inde- pendently to plan, organize, and conduct investigations in original res earch or developme nt work i n a profe ssional, scientifi c, or tec hnical field . The a nnual rates of com pensat ion fo r posit ions i n this
