HOU SE OF DETE NTION For maintenance, including rent, of a suitable place for the recep- tion and detention of Uirls and women over seventeen years of age, arrested by the police on charge of offense against any laws in force in the District of Columbia, or held as witnesses or held pend- ing final investigation or examination, or otherwise, including trans- p ortati on, t he pur chase and mainte nance of n ecessa ry mo tor ve hicle s, clinic supplies, food, upkeep and repair of buildings, fuel, gas, ice, la undry, supplies and equipment, electricity, and other necessary expenses, $18,250 ; for personal services, $10,440 ; in all, $28,690 : P rovided, That no part of this appropriation shall be expended for the maintenance of a House of Detention in the territory abutting or adjacent to the grounds of the Capitol Building, the Senate and House Office Buildings, and the Library of Congress . POLICEMEN AND FIREMEN'S RELIEF FUND To pay the relief and other allowances as authorized by law, such su m as is necessary for said purposes for the fiscal year 1931 is appropriated from the policemen and firemen's relief fund . FIRE DEPARTMENT SALARIE S For the pay of officers and members of the fire department, in accordance with the Act entitled "An Act to fix the salaries of officers and members of the Metropolitan police force, the United States park police force, and the fire department of the District of Columbia" (43 Stat ., p . 175), $1,897,000 .
