Plant Industry Bu- reau . General expenses . For all necessary expenses in the investigation of fruits, fruit trees, grain, cotton, tobacco, vegetables, grasses, forage, drug, medicinal, poisonous, fiber, and other plants and plant industries in cooperation with other branches of the department, the State experiment sta- tions, and practical farmers, and for the erection of necessary farm buildings : Provided, That the cost of any building erected shall not exceed $1,500 ; for field and station expenses, including fences, drains, and other farm improvements ; for repairs in the District of Colum- bia and elsewhere ; for rent outside of the District of Columbia ; and for the employment of all investigators, local and special agents, agricultural explorers, experts, clerks, illustrators, assistants, and all labor and other necessary expenses in the city of Washington and elsewhere required for the investigations, experiments, and demon- strations herein authorized as follows Chief of Bureau, and office personnel . For necessary expenses for general administrative purposes, includ- ing the salary of chief of bureau and other personal services in the District of Columbia, $207,000 . Mycology and disease survey : For mycological collections and the maintenance of a plant-disease survey, $59,500 . Citrus canker eradication : For conducting such investigations of the nature and means of communication of the disease of citrus trees known as cit rus canker, a nd for applyi ng such method s of eradica- tion or control of the disease as in the judgment of the Secretary of Agriculture may be necessary, including the payment of such expenses and the employment of such persons and means, in the city of Washington and elsewhere, and cooperation with such authorities of the States concerned, organizations of growers, or individuals, as he may deem necessary to accomplish such purposes, $45,000, and, in the discretion of the Secretary of Agriculture, no expenditures shall be made for these purposes until a sum or sums at least equal to such expend itures shall have been appr opriated, sub scribed, or contributed by State, county, or local authorities, or by individuals or organizations for the accomplishment of such purposes

S . C ., Supp . III, title 7, sec . 422), $25,000, together with the une xpended balan ce of the app ropriation for this purpose for the fiscal year 1930 . Total, Bureau of Dairy Industry, $722,765, of which amount not to exceed $338,391 may be expended for personal services in the District of Columbia .
