CHAPTER 183

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Hefresentatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That Shirley W. Rothra (Army Service Number 42109864), Mayville, New York, is hereby relieved of all liability to refund to the United States the sum of $150, representing overpayments made to him by the W a r Department as the result of its failure to make appropriate deductions from his pay for class E allotments during the period beginning October 1, 1944, and ending December 31, 1945. In the audit and settlement of the accounts of any certifying or disbursing officer of the United States, full credit shall be given for any amount for which liability is relieved by this Act. CHAPTER 184

AN ACT For the relief of Mary Rose and Mrs. Alice Rose Spittler.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the MrAiiceVittiJi'^ United States of America in Congress assembled, That the Secretary of the Treasury is authorized and directed to pay, out of any money in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated, to Mary Rose, McAlester, Oklahoma, the sum of $4,000, and to pay the sum of $6,000 to Mrs. Alice Rose Spittler, of San Bernardino, California. The payment of such sum shall be in full settlement of all claims against the United States for payment of the proceeds of the United States Government insurance (K-662766) issued to the late Donald Little Rose (Veterans' Administration claim numbered XC-880119): Provided, That no part of the amount appropriated in this Act shall be paid or delivered to or received by any agent or attorney on account of services rendered in connection with this claim, and the same shall be unlawful, any contract to the contrary notwithstanding. Any person violating the provisions of this Act shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be fined in any sum not exceeding $1,000. Approved June 21, 1955. C H A P T E R 185 AN ACT For the relief of I$uonaventura Giannone.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of JRepresentatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That, notwithstanding the provisions of section 212(a)(9) and (17) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, Buonaventura Giannone may be admitted to the United States for permanent residence if he is found to be otherwise admissible under the provisions of that Act: Provided, That this exemption shall apply only to a ground for exclusion of which the Department of State or the Department of Justice had knowledge prior to the enactment of this Act.
