FEDERAL PRISON SYSTEM SALARIES AND EXPENSES, BUREAU OP PRISONS
For expenses necessary for the administration, operation, and maintenance of Federal penal and correctional institutions, including supervision of United States prisoners in non-Federal institutions and their support in Alaska; purchase of not to exceed twenty-six (of which twenty shall be for replacement only) and hire of passenger motor vehicles; compilation of statistics relating to prisoners in Federal and non-Federal penal and correctional institutions; payment pursuant to law of claims of employees for loss, damage, or destruction of personal property (31 U.S.C. 238); firearms and ammunition; medals and otner awards; payment of rewards; purchase and exchange of farm products and livestock; construction of buildings at prison camps; and acquisition of land as authorized by section 7 of the Act of July 28, 1950 (5 U.S.C. 341f); $41,(500,000: Provided, That there may be transferred to the Public Health Service such amounts as may be necessary, in the discretion of the Attorney General, for direct expenditure by that Service for medical relief for inmates of Federal penal and correctional institutions.

BUILDINGS AND FACILITIES
For construction of staff housing at Federal penal and correctional institutions, $225,000. For construction of a maximum security institution on publiclv owned land in Marion, Illinois, as selected by the Attorney General's Site Selection Committee, $1,000,000. For constructing^ remodeling, and equipping necessary buildings and facilities at existing penal and correctional institutions, including all necessary expenses incident thereto, by contract or foix;e account, $4,400,000: Provided, That labor of United States prisoners may be used for work performed under this appropriation: Provided further, That $75,000 of this appropriation shall be available for payment to the city of Ashland, Kentucky, as the Government's share of the cost of a new water line to serve the Federal Correctional Institution, Ashland, Kentucky. The Attorney General, or such officer as he may designate, is hereby authorized to pay out of any funds or other property or interest vested in him or transferred to him pursuant to or with respect to the Trading With the Enemy Act of October 6, 1917, as amended (50 U.S.C. App.) H ^^^ ^ ^ i- ^ and the International Claims Settlement Act^ as amended (22 U.S.C. ^^' 1631), necessary expenses incurred in carrying out the powers and 69 Stat. 562. duties conferred on the Attorney General pursuant to said Acts: Provided, That not to exceed $l,500j000 shall be available in the current fiscal year for the general administrative expenses of the Office of Alien Property, including rent of private or Government-owned space in the District of Columbia: Provided further, That on or before Reports.
