(73) Section 8 8 5 1 (a) is amended by inserting the w o r d s "except for the a d j u t a n t g e n e r a l or assistant a d j u t a n t g e n e r a l of a State or T e r r i to r y, P u e r to Ilico, the C a n a l Zone, or the District of C o l u m b i a " after the w o r d s " After June 30, 1960,". (74) Section 8 8 5 2 (a) is amended by inserting the w o r d s "except for the a d j u t a n t g e n e r a l or assistant a d j u t a n t g e n e r a l of a State or T e r r i to r y, P u e r to R i c o, the C a n a l Zone, or the District of C o l u m b i a " after the w o r d s, " After June 30, 1960,". (75) Section 8853(2) is amended to read as follows: " (2) all service before June 15, 1933, as a commissioned officer in the federally recognized National G u a r d or in a federally recognized commissioned s t a t u s i n the National G u a r d, and in the National G u a r d after June 14, 1933, if h i service therein was continuous from the date of h i s Federal recognition as a n officer therein to the date of his appointment i n the National G u a r d of the United States; and". (76) Chapter 863 is amended by a d d i n g the following new section a t the end the r e o f: "§ 8855. Retention in active status of certain officers until age 60 " Notwithstanding any other section of t h i s chapter except section 8846, the Secretary of the A i r For c e may, w i t h the officer's consent, r e t a i n in an active s t a t u s any reserve officer of the A i r For c e w h o is designated as a medical officer, d e n t a l officer, c h a p l a i n. A i r For c e n u r s e, or A i r For c e m e d i c a l specialist, b u t not later than the date upon which h e becomes 60 year s of a g e. " (77) The analysis of chapter 863 is amended by striking out the following items: "8841. Age 50: female reserve nurses and medical specialists below.major. "8842. Age 55: female reserve nurses and medical specialists above captain. •'8843. Age 60: reserve officers below major general. "•8844. Retention in active status of certain officers until age 60." SEC. 2. Title 14, United States Code, is amended as f o l l o w s: (1) Section 772 is amended to read as follows: "§ 772. Authorized number of officers " (a) The a u t h o r i z e d n u m b e r of officers in the Coast G u a r d Reserve in active s t a t u s is 5,000. The actual n u m b e r of Reserve officers in active s t a t u s a t any t i m e shall not exceed these a u t h o r i z e d n u m b e r s unless the Secretary shall determine that a g r e a t e r n u m b e r is necessary for p l a n n e d mobilization requirements, o r unless such excess shall
