Forest research: For forest research at forest and range experiment stations, the Forest Products Laboratory, or elsewhere, as authorized by law; $24,835,000. State and private forestry cooperation: For cooperation with States in forest-fire prevention and suppression, in forest tree planting on non-Federal public and private lands, and in forest management and processing, and for advising timberland owners, associations, woodusing industries, and others in the application of forest management principles and processing of forest products, as authorized by law; $15,830,000. FOREST ROADS A N D TRAILS ( L I Q U I D A T I O N OF CONTRACT AUTHORIZATION)

For expenses necessary for carrying out the provisions of title 23, United States Code, sections 203 and 205, relating to the construction and maintenance of forest development roads and trails, $37,500,000, to remain available until expended, for liquidation of obligations incurred pursuant to authority contained in title 23, United States Code, section 203: Provided, That funds available under the Act of March 4, 1913 (f6 U.S.C. 501), shall be merged with and made a part of this appropriation: Provided further, That not less than the amount made available under the provisions of the Act of March 4, 1913, shall be expended under the provisions of such Act. For additional roads needed for access to national forest lands in carrying out the Act of June 4, 1897, as amended (16 U.S.C. 471, 472, 475,476,551), $2,000,000.

ACQUISITION OF LANDS FOR N A T I O N A L FORESTS SUPERIOR N A T I O N A L FOREST

For completion of the acquisition of forest land within the Superior National Forest, Minnesota, under the provisions of the Act of June 22, 1948 (62 Stat. 570; 16 U.S.C. 577c-h), as amended, by purchase, condemnation or otherwise, $2,000,000, to remain available until expended and to be available without regard to the restriction in the proviso in section 1 of that Act. SPECIAL ACTS

For the acquisition of land in the Cache National Forest, Utah, in accordance with the Act of May 11, 1938 (52 Stat. 347), as amended, $10,000, to be derived from forest receipts as authorized by said Act: Provided, That no part of this appropriation shall be used for acquisition of any land which is not within the boundaries of a national forest: Provided further, That no part of this appropriation shall be used for the acquisition of any land without the approval of the local government concerned. For acquisition of land to facilitate the control of soil erosion and flood damage originating within the exterior boundaries of the Uinta and Wasatch National Forests, in accordance with the provisions of the Act of August 26, 1935 (49 Stat. 866), as amended, authorizing annual appropriation of forest receipts for such purposes, from such receipts, $20,000: Provided, That no part of this appropriation shall be used for acquisition of any land which is not within the boundaries of the national forest.
