Secretary concerned and performed by them on a voluntary basis in connection with the prescribed training or maintenance activities of the units to which they are assigned; and includes those duties when performed by members of a reserve component in their status as members of the National Guard, but does not include work or studj in connection with a correspondence course of a uniformed service; (23) member" means a person appointed or enlisted in, or conscripted into, a imiformed service; and (24) "reserve component" means— (A) the Army National Guard of the United States; (B) the Army Eeserve; (C) the Naval Reserve; (D) the Marine Corps Reserve; (E) the Air National Guard of the United States; ^F) the Air Force Reserve; (G) the Coast Guard Reserve; or (H) the Reserve Corps of the Public Health Service. §201. Pay grades: assignment to; general rules (ft) For the purpose of computing their basic pay, commissioned officers of the uniformed services (other than commissioned warrant officers) are assigned by the grade or rank in which serving to the following pay grades: Pay grade Army, Air Force, and Navy, Coast Ouard, and Marine Corps Coast and Geodetic Survey O-IO 0-9 0-8

(b) A contract surgeon who is serving full time with a uniformed service is entitled to the basic pay of a commissioned officer in pay grade 0-2 with two or less years of service computed under section 205 of this title. (c) A cadet at the United States Military Academy, the United States Air Force Academy, or the Coast Guard Academy, or a midshipman at the United States Naval Academy, is entitled to monthly pay at the rate of 50 percent of the basic pay of a commissioned officer in pay grade O-l with two or less years of service computed under section 205 of this title.
