and are authorized to exercise the same authority as members of such Metropolitan Police and members of the Capitol Police and to perform such other duties as may be assigned by the Board. Keim- to^^.a^'gove^"* bursement for salaries and other expenses of such detail peponnel ment. shall be made to the government of the District of Columbia, and any sums so reimbursed shall be credited to the appropriation or appropriations from which such salaries and expenses are payable and shall be available for all the purposes thereof: Provided, That any person detailed under the authority of this paragraph or under similar authority in the Legislative Branch Appropriation Act, 1942, ss Stat. 456. and the Second Deficiency Appropriation Act, 1940, from the Metro- 54 Stat. 629, politan Police of the District of Columbia shall be deemed a member of such Metropolitan Police during the period or periods of any such detail for all purposes of rank, pay, allowances, privileges, and benefits to the same extent as though such detail had not been made, and at the termination thereof any such person who was a member of such police on July 1, 1940, shall have a status with respect to rank, pay, allowances, privileges, and benefits which is not less than the status of such person in such police at the end of such detail: Provided further, That the Commissioners of the District of Columbia are directed (1) to pay the deputy chief of police detailed under the authority of this paragraph the salary of the rank of deputy chief of police plus $1,625 and such increases in basic compensation as may be subsequently provided by law so long as this position is held by the present incumbent, (2) to pay the two detective lieutenants detailed under the authority of this paragraph and serving as acting detective captains the salary of the rank of detective captains plus $1,625 and such increases in basic compensation as may be subsequently provided by law so long as these positions are held by the present incumbents, (3) to pay the detective sergeant detailed under the authority of this paragraph and serving as acting detective lieutenant the salar}^ of the rank or detective lieutenant plus $1,625 and such increases in basic compensation as may be subsequently provided by law so long as this position is held by the present incumbent, and (4) to pay the three detectives permanently detailed under the authority of this paragraph and serving as acting detective sergeants the salary of the rank of detective sergeants and such increases in basic compensation as may be subsequently provided by law. No part of any appropriation contained in this Act shall be paid as compensation to any person appointed after June 30, 1935, as an officer or member of the Capitol Police who does not meet the standards to be prescribed for such appointees by the Capitol Police Board: Provided, That the Capitol Police Board is hereby authorized to detail police from the House Office, Senate Office, and Capitol buildings for police duty on the Capitol Grounds and on the Library of Congress Grounds. EDUCATION OF PAGES
For education of congressional pages and pages of the Supreme Court, pursuant to section 243 of the Legislative Reorganization Act, 1946, $86,308, which amount shall be advanced and credited to the applicable appropriation of the District of Columbia, and the Board of Education of the District of Columbia is hereby authorized to employ such personnel for the education of pages as may be required and to pay compensation for such services in accordance with such rates of compensation as the Board of Education may prescribe.
